First Edition Identification Macmillian first published Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland in 1865 with illustrations by John Tenniel. The first print run was only 2,000 copies before it was recalled due to “print quality.” Only two dozen or so copies of the legendary “Sixty-five Alice” are now known to survive.
